Governance

Rules you can fork

Our governance lives in the repository as a versioned file. Every rule change is a pull request with public discussion and an audit trail. If you disagree with how this community is run, you can propose a change — or fork the whole thing, rules included.

The contribution ladder

Learner

Anyone using the school or registry. No account needed, no data collected.

Contributor

One merged pull request. You get a contributor page and a vote on non-binding polls.

Maintainer

Five merged PRs plus a sponsor from an existing maintainer. Review rights in a content area via CODEOWNERS.

Steward

Elected annually by maintainers. Holds admin rights, breaks ties, and is accountable to a public record of decisions.

Commitments we hold ourselves to

  • Every artifact on this platform stays under an OSI- or CC-approved open license.
  • No user tracking, no advertising, no selling of data — ever, under any funding pressure.
  • Decisions that affect contributors happen in public before they happen in private.
  • We publish our real median PR review time, including when it's bad.
  • If this project dies, the repo stays public and forkable. Nothing is trapped.
